Our guest speaker on Thursday, February 28 was Lima Sarhadi. For those of you at that noon meeting, you learned about Lima, who moved to the United States from a war torn Afghanistan when she was only 13 years old, without her parents, to make a life here in the U.S. Lima is now a striving and succeeding student at UWBC with future plans to gain an education and then to return to her native Afghanistan to do good for her country. Those of us at her presentation were so impressed with her courage, sincerity, charisma, and positive attitude that we feel we must do something to support Lima. She has a goal to raise $2600 for next year's tuition as an out-of-state student. If you were not able to make a donation to this cause, you will have another opportunity to do so tomorrow. Please bring some $$ CASH $$ with you tomorrow for this very worthwhile cause, and, be generous; your contributions are going to help a young woman who is going to make a big difference in "her world". |

New Member "Spotlight"This week we are pleased to "Spotlight" one of our newer Rotary members, Lisa Robinson. ![]() "I graduated from Rice Lake High School and attended UW-Stout where I majored in Hotel, Restaurant & Management. I worked in the Twin Cities and Milwaukee as an Operations Manager for Marriott. In 2012, I moved back to Rice Lake to be closer to my family and raise my daughter in a smaller community. I worked as a Human Resource Administrator for a few years and decided that I was looking for more of a work/personal balance. I started to working at CCF last December as a Universal Teller and was recently promoted to Personal Banker. I enjoy working with the customers and meeting new people. I am excited to be a member of Rotary Club and look forward to helping in the community." |

The Rotary Foundation earned a "four star" rating from Charity Navigator, the largest and most prestigious independent evaluator of non-profits in the United States. This year's highest distinction is our eighth in a row, which places the Foundation in the top 2 percent of U.S. based charities. Charity Navigator President and CEO Michael Thatcher wrote: "Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that your organization adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way. This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator differentiates the Rotary Foundation from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust."

Mother Nature cooperated with a beautiful sunny day and a mild breeze across the lake. At approximately 4pm the 5,000 ducks were released on Rice Lake. At that point one retriever dog (Bear) was released to retrieve a "single duck" out of the 5,000 in the water. That duck was matched to a "Duck Chase Ticket" and the ticket owner won the top cash prize of $10,000. Then 3 dogs were released in sequence to retrieve a "single duck at a time" for the 20 other prizes won by duck ticket owners. Congratulations to all DUCK's winners!! Below is a picture of "BEAR" retrieving the $10,000 winning DUCK!!
